The Unreal Tournament (UT) III Linux client will not be available in the box, together with the Windows client, but a downloadable Linux installer that works with the retail Windows disc will be developed, as the only Linux developer, Ryan C. Gordon said. The client will be optimized for Dual Core CPUs, so on all platforms, the users can take advantage of multicore systems.

If you have a 64 bit system running Linux, you should know that there are no plans at this moment for creating a 64-bit version of Unreal Tournament III.

From now on, UnrealEd uses wxWidgets on all platforms; however, the editor won't be ready for Linux when the game ships, but that will be made available later if things work as planned.

Unreal Tournament III is the sequel to UT 2004, and it is expected to be shipped next month, as you can see on the official site. The developers have created a beta demo version for the Windows client, and soon a Linux edition of it will be available. A beta demo version for servers was created to be used on Linux systems. Unreal Tournament was always the major rival of id Software's Quake game, so we could see a true battle between UT 3 and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars which is another game that's going to have a Linux version.

To have a decent gaming experience, you should have a computer equipped with at least a 2.0+ Ghz Single Core Processor, 512 MB of RAM, an Nvidia 6200+ or ATI Radeon 9600+ graphics card and 8 GB of free space on your hard disk.

If you want to fully take advantage of UT's capabilities, you need a system that has a 2.4 GHz Dual Core Processor, 1GB of RAM, Nvidia 7800GTX+ or ATI x1300+ video card.
