Epic Games has announced that all those who are interested in playing Unreal Tournament 3 Black for free can do so over the coming weekend. The move comes as the company and fans are commemorating the ten-year anniversary since the release of the demo for the original Unreal Tournament.

All those who are interested can log into their Steam accounts or create a new one if they do not already have it, and can begin to pre-load the title free of charge. This means that all the files will be brought to the hard drive in order to be able to fire up the video game at midnight and join other players in multiplayer matches. Those who have a bout of nostalgia related to the original Unreal Tournament can even pick it up on Steam for the low price of 1.99 dollars and Steam is also offering Unreal Tournament 3 Black with a 60% price cut until September 27.

Black is the special edition of the first-person shooter, which includes the Titan Pack, Titan-specific mutators and new game types like Greed and Betrayal. There are also more weapons, more vehicles, more characters and more deployable weapons. All this content is being offered for free for all those who have already purchased the initial release of Unreal Tournament 3.

Epic is also emphasizing that there are quite a lot of interesting mods that Unreal Tournament players might want to try if the basic setup is no longer interesting to them, like: The Haunted; Prometheus; The Ball; Angels Fall First: Planetstorm or UT2D Killing Time.

Epic has been offering free weekends for Unreal Tournament 3 Black for a while now and it might be interesting to see if it plans to, at some point, offer it for free like id Software does at the moment with Quake Live.
