Epic Games, the creators of the Unreal Engine, are still working on bringing the development suite over to the Android mobile operating system, which is being developed by Google, despite a number of reports to the contrary.

Mark Rein, who is a vice president at Epic Games, has said in an interview with Gamasutra, that, “UDK will come eventually to Android, and Google is going to solve that problem - we know they're working on it, but we don't know the release date and we don't know when it will get into the hands of all the different vendors with all the different phones.”

He added that, “We've been supporting for quite a while, and we've been providing in source code format to our licensees.”

It seems that Epic Games can offer support for those who use it at the moment but needs more time to make its development suite work well with Android.

Gameloft, a company which specializes in mobile gaming, has announced that it will be using Unreal Engine 3 to create titles for both Android and the Apple made iPhone.

Mark Rein also added that his company supports Google in its effort to create a more unified Android platform, a series of moves that have been opposed by other developers that support the open source concept.

The developers at Epic Games believe that a more controlled mobile platform will lead to more people using the Unreal Engine to create games for it.

Epic Games is best known for the Gears of War series, which is set to get the latest installment in the trilogy this September, but a lot of the company's revenue is being derived from licensing its game engine.

The company announced that it is working on Unreal Engine 4 and has shown a pretty impressive tech demo that might be the basis of a whole new game.
