It might signal other studios to port games based on Unreal Engine 3

Sanctum 2, a first-person tower defense game developed and published by Coffee Stain Studios on Steam, has just received a Linux version, although it's just a Beta.

Sanctum 2 is a direct sequel to the first game in the series. The first Sanctum didn't get a Linux version on Steam, but the second build is a little bit luckier. This is even better news than you might expect. The game is using the Unreal 3 engine, which means that it might be possible for other Unreal-based games to get a Linux version.

“We just set a beta of the coming Linux port of Sanctum 2 live on a public branch. If you want to try it out, opt into the branch ‘linuxbeta’ by clicking Library->Sanctum2->Properties->Betas and chose the linuxbeta branch.”

“Note that the Linux version still has a lot of issues and does still not work in multiplayer together with the PC-version of the game. This will be fixed once it's a bit more polished and ready for release,” said the developers from Coffee Stain Studios on Steam.

The game has been released for while on the Windows platform and it has already gathered quite a fan base, but the Linux launch should make it even more popular.
