Chat with your friends on Yahoo Messenger from Windows 8 Metro

Yahoo is one of the companies that tried to release some Metro ports of its Windows apps, including an email client, but an official Yahoo Messenger client is still missing from the store.

In the meantime, a developer called Arcadia Technology released an unofficial client called simply Yahoo Messenger (the name might be changed in the near future if Yahoo decides to release its own official app), thus giving users the power to chat with their contacts straight from the Modern UI of Windows 8.

The application is quite basic actually and doesn't bring too many features, but it seems to be working quite smoothly on both desktops and tablets running Windows 8.

It comes with options to send and receive files, set a status, switch to invisible mode, use animated emoticons, access address book details, configure an avatar and save chat history to text file.

The interface is nothing special and is mostly based on simple graphics, but the app surely does what it promises without too many complex features and eye-candy design.

Overall, there is no doubt that those who'd like to chat on this particular network should give this app a try, even though it doesn't impress as far as features and looks are concerned. And still, you should really download Yahoo Messenger for Windows 8 to discover what it's up to.
