ASUS is not the fastest when it comes to upgrading its devices to the latest Android build

Back in May 2013 ASUS released the MeMO Pad Smart 10 tablet, a 10-inch device with an LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels that drew power from an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor.

The device comes shipping with Android 4.1 out of the box and, since ASUS is not hurrying along to update its tablets to the latest Android build (it barely pushed Android 4.3 for some models), some users might be open to other possibilities to get a taste of KitKat on their devices.

The good news is that the OmniROM KitKat 4.4 Unofficial ROM has been made available for the ASUS MeMO Pad Smart (ME301T) (via xda-developers).

The developer says that, since the ASUS MeMO Pad Smart is pretty similar to the Transformer TF300T, he has built the ROM together with the latter.

Also, because this is not an official OmniROM version, some changes like the extra multi-window feature might be a pleasant surprise for flashers.

To jump on board of the KitKat bandwagon, you should have the TWRP 2.6.3.1 that supports KitKat (TF300T version). Users will also need TWRP or CWM installed and a flashable GApps pack too.

Last but not least, for those of you who want root access on top of everything, make you get SuperSU.

The instruction to flashing the OmniROM are pretty straight forward, but be advised that if you choose to do this, your device warranty will become void and null. But if you're still willing to go forth with it, here are the steps to do so:

• Boot into recovery and flash the TWRP 2.6.3.1 ZIP • Reboot the tablet into the old ROM • Reboot into recovery again • Do a factory reset / full wipe • Flash the OmniROM zip file, the GApps ZIP file and SuperSU ZIP file • Reboot the tablet and enjoy OmniROM.
