The many Pentax, Nikon, Sony and Panasonic cameras that have appeared this week were a way of diverting attention from Intel's IDF event, but they are evidence of another thing: Photokina 2012.

As a gathering of photo and video camera makers, the event will take place from September 18 to September 23. In other words, form next Tuesday to Sunday.

Foreshadowing that event, an Olympus camera has been exposed by a leak on Digicam info.

It has a faux leather grip and a toggle switch on the front (for what, we don't know). Everything else is identical to the XZ-1, which is what suggests that the photos depict the XZ-2.

We have no doubt that Olympus will publish a long and detailed press release about this camera several days from now. At that point, we'll know enough about the prices and hardware to speculate which of the other newcomers will enter a rivalry with it.
