Samsung decided to launch the Focus S in the United States back in September 2011. The phone was exclusively introduced through AT&T, but an unlocked variant has been available on the market as well.

This is a Windows Phone 7.5 Mango smartphone, which offers both HSDPA (21Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76Mbps). Samsung Focus S can be easily put against Nokia’s Lumia 900, the most powerful Windows Phone device launched by the Finnish company.

Both smartphones are equipped with a 1.4 GHz single-core processor and pack 512MB of RAM. Obviously, neither comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion.

In addition, the handsets come with 16GB of internal memory, but Samsung mentioned a while back that Focus S will also have a 32GB model.

However, leading retailers in Australia and New Zealand only sell the 16GB version for the moment. Mobicity currently offers the unlocked Samsung Focus S for $500 AUD.

Keep in mind that this Focus S still bears AT&T logo and will only work with certain networks such as: Optus 2G, Vodafone 2G, Telstra 2G, Optus 3G 2100, Vodafone/Three 3G 2100, Telstra/Voda NextG 3G 850.

Unlike Nokia Lumia 900 that sports a 4.3-inch AMOLED display, the Samsung Focus S comes with a Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display. It is worth mentioning that the former features Nokia ClearBlack technology, as well as Corning Gorilla Glass coating.

When it comes to camera, Lumia 900 seems to be the winner given the fact that it boasts an 8-megapixel rear photo snapper with Carl Zeiss optics and dual-LED flash, while the Samsung Focus S sports a standard 8-megapixel camera with no worthy enhancements.

Samsung Focus S wins when it comes to size, as the phone is only 8.5mm think, which makes it one of the sleekest Windows Phone devices available on the market. Check it out here.
