Microsoft gives Office 365 users unlimited OneDrive space

Microsoft has recently signed a deal with Dropbox to integrate more cloud-based storage options into Office, and many have rushed to believe that OneDrive will lose some ground due to the fact that the parent company concentrates too much on deals with rival companies.

While some users might indeed move from OneDrive to Dropbox because of the recent deal, Microsoft still has an ace up its sleeve that would make its cloud-based storage service much more appealing to users worldwide.

As announced a few weeks ago, Office 365 would get unlimited OneDrive storage thanks to a new update prepared by Microsoft for its cloud service, and according to some new reports, the very first users are getting the increased storage today.

Brad Sams of Neowin writes that some accounts have already been updated to 10 TB of storage space, which is the first step towards the planned increase to unlimited storage.

Available for all Office 365 users

The unlimited storage space update is available for all Office 365 customers, no matter the subscription package they purchased.

Microsoft said that storage space would be increased gradually for all accounts, so in case you can't see it yet, just check back in a few days.

Each user first receives 10 TB of storage space, and in case this isn't enough, they can contact Microsoft directly and request even more space.

“Ask and you shall receive! We have taken you off the waiting list and your Office 365 account now has access to unlimited OneDrive storage. We added 10 TB of OneDrive storage to your account to get you started during the initial rollout. If you reach your capacity and need additional storage, or have OneDrive questions, just email us,” the company says in an email submitted to clients.

Still better than Dropbox

Even though Microsoft joined forces with Dropbox to bring the cloud storage solution in Office, OneDrive is still a much better solution for users because it brings more space than its rivals, in a more affordable package.

At this point, the most affordable Office 365 subscription can be yours for only $6.99 (5.5 euro) per month, and in addition to Office applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, you also get unlimited storage space on OneDrive.

Dropbox, on the other hand, provides 1 TB of storage space for $99 (75 euro) per year, without offering access to Office applications, so for a lower price you get more value in a much better package.
