Unlikely Fashion Icon: The Reign of 3-Year-Old Suri Cruise

She’s just about to turn 3 years old, but TomKitten, aka Suri Cruise, the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, is arguably one of the most mediated celebrity kids. What Suri has and other children her age don’t, though, is also the title of “style icon” that the media just bestowed on her.

Suri has been photographed in designer clothes ever since she was only 2, but it’s just now that she’s being hailed as the next best thing of her generation in terms of style, and designers are rushing to get her to wear their creations.

Her latest appearances have done nothing but confirm the common belief that, when it comes to rocking baby clothes, no one does it with more style than Suri, as the British publication the Daily Mail points out.

“Hang up your handbag, Posh; make way, Kate. There’s a hot new style icon in town. And there’s no hope of outlasting her, seeing as she's not even three years old yet. With her thick dark hair and wide eyes, Suri Cruise is very cute. And thanks to her appearance at various photo opportunities, she’s also become the latest weapon in the battle for designers to promote their wares. Last week, for instance, she was taken by her mother to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Except Ralph Lauren immediately put out a statement proudly announcing that she was wearing its seersucker Illyana dress.” the Mail says.

Suri’s outfit on a regular playdate with the Beckham boys was equally admired by fashion insiders – as if she had really played a part in choosing it. A polka dot skirt, a striped red and black sweater matched with red shoes and black leggings virtually made of Suri an international fashion icon. Even her own father, legendary actor Tom Cruise, can’t help but be amazed by the reaction his daughter’s clothes generate. “It’s very flattering that people want to copy Suri’s clothes. It does feel strange, but you have to kind of go: ‘It is what it is’.” the star recently told about the Suri-mania that is sweeping over the world.

However, while Suri does look adorable and seemingly fashionable in all her outfits, branding her a “style icon” might be somewhat far-fetched at this point, some have stressed. After all, this is just a 3-year-old girl who still chews on her flip flop (as she was recently pictured doing), and who would probably wear plastic clothes if they came in pink with glitter. Her so-called “style” is nothing but her mother’s style adapted to her small frame and age.
