The Texas-based University Co-op is available as a native iPhone app starting today, thanks to mobile commerce leader Digby. The iPhone app complements The University Co-op’s mobile-optimized website launched in 2010.

The free app, compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, requires iOS 3.0 or later and provides University of Texas fans, students, Exes and faculty with a convenient and enhanced mobile shopping experience.

Powered by the Digby Mobile Platform, the software provides search functions, the ability to browse and buy merchandise directly from the device, and more.

Texas Longhorn fans can access a Tower Cam to watch live video of the UT Tower changing colors when Texas wins a football game.

A Longhorn Cam that shows live video of the Longhorn statue behind The University Co-op store in Austin, Texas is also accessible.

Users get sports schedules and scores from the University of Texas, Twitter and Facebook integration, and RSS feed integration with The Daily Texan, Austin American Statesman and The University Co-op blog.

Commenting on their new release, George H. Mitchell, president and CEO, The University Co-op., said: “The Co-op has continually been on the forefront of online technology to bring the University of Texas community together. We were one of the first college bookstores in the U.S. to launch an ecommerce site, and now through the mobile channel, we are attracting a whole new generation of Longhorn fans.”

Mitchell continued, saying that “The University of Texas community has made our mobile site a success and we are very excited to now offer them an enhanced mobile experience through the University Co-op iPhone app that provides them access to everything they need all in one place.”

“The addition of an iPhone app is a natural move for The University Co-op to drive an engaging mobile experience for students, faculty and fans,” said Dave Sikora, president and CEO, Digby.

“UT fans are among the most loyal in the country and they love to show their pride through Longhorn gear. We are excited to be working with The University Co-op to give fans a unique and convenient way to purchase Longhorn merchandise via the mobile channel,” Sikora added.
