Univention, a company that offers management solutions for internal or cloud-hosted IT infrastructures, has released Univention Corporate Server 3.2-3, a Debian-based Linux distribution.

The new operating system from Univention is an open source infrastructure solution that can be implemented in any kind of systems and is based on Debian. This means that it's compatible with a wide array of packages and that regular people can also make use of it.

The Univention Corporate Server comes with a series of features that users can't really find anywhere else, like a dedicated App Center for the easy installation and management of UCS components and integrated management system for the central administration of servers, identity management with single sign-on functions, Microsoft Active Directory-compatible domain services compatibility, and much more.

As you can imagine, the improvements for such a complex server are quite numerous, but the update process should be relatively painless.

“In environments with more than one UCS system, the update order of the UCS systems must be borne in mind. The authoritative version of the LDAP directory service is maintained on the master domain controller and replicated on all the remaining LDAP servers of the UCS domain.”

“As changes to the LDAP schemes can occur during release updates, the master domain controller must always be the first system to be updated during a release update. It is generally advisable to update all UCS systems in one maintenance window whenever possible,” note the devs.

According to the changelog, the new module Active Directory Connection now merges the domain administrated by UCS and an existing Active Directory, the UCS setup wizard has been completely overhauled and now guides users particularly comfortably through the domain configuration of UCS and it's able to detect the configuration settings automatically, and PHP 5.4.4 has been backported to UCS 3.2. PHP is now available by default and needs to be downloaded from the repos.

Also, the OpenLDAP replication has been improved significantly by tracking changes in the directory service with unique IDs, the Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.10.11 (better hardware support is now available for users), the Active Directory compatibility has been improved, and the Univention server now supports the Microsoft Data Protection Application Program Interface (DPAPI).

More details about the pricing of this distribution for the non-personal use version, as well as other important details, can be found in the official announcement. You can download Univention Corporate Server 3.2-3 right now from Softpedia.
