Univention, a company that offers management solutions for internal or cloud-hosted IT infrastructures, has released Univention Corporate Server 3.2-2, a Debian-based Linux distribution.

The new operating system from Univention is an open source infrastructure solution that can be implemented in any kind of systems and is based on Debian, which makes it a great tool for regular users as well.

The Univention Corporate Server comes with a series of features that users can't really find anywhere else, like a dedicated App Center for the easy installation and management of UCS components and integrated management system for the central administration of servers, identity management with single sign-on functions, Microsoft Active Directory-compatible domain services compatibility, and much more.

The developers of the server have issued a few instructions that should be followed if you want to make a successful update or installation.

“The authoritative version of the LDAP directory service is maintained on the master domain controller and replicated on all the remaining LDAP servers of the UCS domain. As changes to the LDAP schemes can occur during release updates, the master domain controller must always be the first system to be updated during a release update.”

“It must be checked whether sufficient disk space is available. A standard installation requires a minimum of 6 GB of disk space. Depending on the scope of the existing installation, the update will require at least another 1 GB of disk space for the downloading and installation of the packages,” reads the announcement from the developers.

According to the changelog, the domain joining of Windows clients with incorrect system times has been simplified and it's no longer necessary to synchronize the system time in advance, password lockouts following unsuccessful login attempts are now supported in the Samba AD domains, the Univention AD Takeover can now also be performed via a simple Univention Management Console module, and the Univention App Center has been expanded.

Also, the developers have made it possible to provide applications that are not available for all processor architectures, the configuration of the access to WLAN networks via the RADIUS protocol is much simpler, and the base system has been updated to Debian 6.0.9, along with all the perks and improvements that come with it.

More details about the pricing of this distribution for the non-personal use version, as well as other important details, can be found in the official announcement. You can download Univention Corporate Server 3.2-2 right now from Softpedia.
