The new application is pretty much the same as the old one, at least for now

Ubuntu developers announced a while ago that they were planning on forking GNOME Control Center and launching their own version. The new Unity Control Center is now the default application in Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr).

The new tool that will be used instead of GNOME Control Center is called Unity Control Center and it's just a temporary step. Canonical plans to replace this Unity tool with Ubuntu Control Center, which will be the same application used on the Ubuntu Touch.

These changes fall neatly into the Ubuntu convergence plan, which will see a single kind of application run on all versions of Ubuntu, regardless of whether it’s the PC or the phone.

In any case, given the fact that Unity Control Center is a fork of GNOME Control Center, you won't see any visual changes. Maybe in time, but for now they remain pretty much the same. Both of them are present on the system, but it's just a matter of time until Ubuntu developers remove GNOME Control Center.
