The development work on Mir and Unity 8 is far from over

Unity 8 is still pretty far away and the display server Mir is still in development. This doesn't mean that Canonical is not working hard on bringing the two technologies together, as soon as possible.

Ubuntu's community manager Jono Bacon has posted a video of Mir running on the next generation of Unity. Keep in mind that what you're seeing in the video is in fact the phone part of Unity. Apparently, the desktop version is not ready yet.

“This work is still very early in development and neither Mir nor Unity Next are finished yet, but I reached out to Michael Zanetti, who is on the team, and asked him to put together a short video demo to show the progress of this work,” said Jono Bacon on his blog.

The system used for the demo is a MacBook Pro with Retina display, running at a resolution of 2880x1800 and it's using the incorporated Intel HD 4400 graphics. Mir doesn't know yet how to use the Nvidia chipset, but even so, the performance is outstanding.
