Earlier this week we have learned that the Taliban are using fake Facebook profiles of attractive women in order to dupe enemy soldiers into handing over sensitive information. Today we learn how they’ve managed to raise the money that enables them to continue their campaigns.

According to a UN report, cited by ToloNews, the Taliban raised around $400 million (320 million EUR) in 2011. How? The money comes from donations, taxes, development projects, and, last but not least, by extorting money from businesses.

The figures from the report reveal that around one quarter of the amount comes from opium trade - Afghanistan producing around 90% of the world’s opium.

It’s believed that around $100 million (80 million EUR) were utilized to fund attacks, the rest being spent on maintaining the insurgency.

Apparently, the US and the other countries that are currently busy fighting the Taliban should be worried because their income increases by the year.
