A trade organization representing video game interests has criticized the United Kingdom government for its failure to implement the PEGO rating system for titles sold on the home market.

Andy Payne, who is the chairman of the United Kingdom Interactive Entertainment organization has stated, “This further delay to PEGI’s implementation is extremely frustrating not to mention disappointing. We have received repeated assurances from government that the process is in hand, yet PEGI is still no closer to implementation.”

UKIE sees PEGI as a way of making it easier to sell video games, eliminating the extra rating that is now linked to the British Board of Film Classification.

PEGI is used all over Europe and makes clear for purchasers what kind of content they can expect from a video game.

Payne added, “The government has set its stock by making the UK one of the best places in Europe to do business yet despite industry consistently calling on the government to introduce the necessary measures to reduce the cost of doing business, we have been hit by delay after delay.”
