One more piece of novelty in the world of toothbrushes has surfaced: the UniBrush, created by Apol, a Korean oral hygiene company. Along with the UniBrush comes a very sophisticated concept that made us laugh a lot when hearing it: Injection During Brushing or IDB. Behind this concept is the idea that squirting toothpaste in your mouth during your brushing is somewhat safer than having a small amount of the same matter on your brush before you start brushing. So far, we haven't been able to find any cases of diseased that were carried into the human body via germs landing on your toothpaste between the moment it gets out of the tube and the instant you're inserting the brush in your mouth... so we're rather skeptical about the “safety principle.”

Nevertheless, the UniBrush is a neat and fun idea that could be a real hit among those who hate to pack too much bathroom-related luggage when they're going away for some days. Carrying a big tube of toothpaste is more than enough when you're planning a three- or four-day trip, therefore having the said paste in the same body with the very brush is really neat!

The UniBrush has a special, hollow handle that is in fact the toothpaste reservoir: it can hold as much as 40 grams of toothpaste and this should last you for around 15 days. Of course, this reservoir can be easily refilled whenever necessary using your large tube we were talking about in the first place. The end of the handle has a small ball pump, which you'll have to press three or four times and thus create the pressure needed to push a small quantity of toothpaste through a tube that opens in the bristle head. Yes, you've got it: you press the ball pump and start brushing as the toothpaste will come as if by magic in your mouth directly from the brush.

You can, of course, change the brush head whenever you feel like necessary as these replacement heads are also manufactured and sold separately by Apol. One good thing about the UniBrush is that you'll no longer need to share the toothpaste tubes in case you’re walking the Injection During Brushing path... and this may indeed prevent some germs traveling from someone's mouth into yours. No word of pricing or availability but it looks like Apol is looking for distributors for the UniBrush, therefore we might get to see this IDB toothbrush in stores soon. (PS: the IDB stuff really sounds high-tech. Or scary.)
