An unemployed man from Leyton, East London, won a £53,000 ($89,100/€65,360) Porsche and a £10,000 ($16,800/€12,330) cash prize after purchasing 50 spot-the-ball tickets with his benefits money, and his jackpot win has outraged taxpayers.

Andrew Boyce, spent £250 ($420/€308) of his benefits on tickets for the game and, when the prize was drawn, he found out he was the lucky winner of an expensive Porsche Boxster GTS and a briefcase full of cash.

But his lucky charm has gotten taxpayers angry, with many criticizing him for spending his benefits money on gambling instead of essentials.

“It’s sickening I have to work two jobs to feed my family and that prat is spending my money spotting balls,” an enraged neighbor says.

According to Metro, Mr. Boyce, 52, worked in the past as a driver for Waltham Forest council and has been receiving disability benefits since he broke his back in a 2004 car accident. He thinks his critics are merely envious.

On the other hand, Andy Silvester, of the Taxpayers’ Alliance, says, “People can spend their benefits on whatever they want, but taxpayers’ anger that their cash has been used to win a swanky new Porsche is understandable. […] There’s nothing to stop him giving some of the cash back to the Government.”
