“Under the Dome” was surrounded by plenty of hype before premiere and it wasn’t just because it’s based on a novel by Stephen King and produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television. The premise of the show appeared to be too intriguing to pass over.

So, millions chose not to do that as it premiered on CBS this Monday.

In a release to TV By the Numbers, CBS says that no less than 13.14 million people tuned in for the show’s big premiere, which makes it “the most-watched summer drama premiere on any network since 1992.”

“In addition, Under the Dome delivered CBS's largest audience among any genre for a summer series premiere since 2000 (‘Big Brother’). It was also the best delivery in adults 18-49 among any genre for a summer series premiere on CBS since June 7, 2005 (‘Fire Me’),” the network further says.

“Under the Dome” stars several well-known TV actors, including Chad Vogel, Rachel Lefevre, Dean Norris, Jolene Purdy, Nicholas Strong, Britt Robertson, Aisha Hinds, Alex Koch, Natalie Martinez, and Colin Ford.

The first episode was directed by the man behind the original “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” film, Niels Arden Oplev.
