The Uncharted trilogy of games that appeared originally on the PS3 console throughout the last generation makes a good candidate for a remastering process and a re-release on the PS4, according to Sony, but the company noted that it doesn't want to flood the market with such releases.

The PlayStation 4 is set to receive later this month The Last of Us Remastered Edition, which brings the great survival horror experience that appeared last year on the PS3, with improved visuals, better performance, and all the DLC released since then.

While many former PS3 owners believe that this tactic is a strategy from Sony to get them to pay for the game once more, the company has noted on several occasions that its data shows that many PS4 owners didn't actually play on a PS3 last generation.

Sony's Shuhei Yoshida reinforced this statistic while talking with Eurogamer about the lineup of titles that will appear on the PS4 this year.

"Games like Destiny coming out, The Last of Us HD, it's a new game to play for people who didn't play on PS3. One amazing statistic, to me at least, was published by Nielsen a couple of months ago," he said.

"They researched the PS4, and reported that 17 per cent of PS4 owners had never owned the last gen. A completely new consumer who skipped a generation. 32 per cent additionally didn't own a PS3, but owned a 360 or Wii."

As such, there are plenty of people who didn't get a chance to experience some of the greatest PS3 exclusives that appeared over the years, so Sony wants to give them a chance to catch up.

"Almost 50 per cent of people who have purchased a PS4 didn't own a PS3, and that's lots of people that missed exclusive PS3 titles like The Last of Us, so it's a great way to welcome those people back to PlayStation, saying this is what you missed."

Yoshida also mentioned that he's been getting a lot of requests form fans about other potential re-releases on the PS4, and the Uncharted trilogy is by far one of the most popular ones. However, Yoshida emphasizes that Sony doesn't want to flood the market with all sorts of remakes.

"There are requests from some consumers for games that were released later in the generation, like Uncharted, which people might have missed," Yoshida added. "That would be a good candidate. We don't want to flood the market with remade games either."

It's unclear just what other old PS3 games are getting the remastering treatment, but you can expect to hear more about the company's plans in the future.
