More details have appeared about the upcoming Uncharted movie project, based on Sony's exclusive Uncharted video game series, right from the director and writer of the movie, David O. Russel.

According to the filmmaker, the movie won't have a lot to do with the actual action of the video game franchise, even if it will feature Nathan Drake, the hero of the series, that will be played by Mark Wahlberg, another movie star that isn't a stranger to video games.

According to Russel, the movie will expand its action to include Nathan's extended family, which will act as a protector of global treasures, from all around the world.

"This idea really turns me on that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities ... [a family] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice," he said.

According to the moviemaker, the script of the movie is more than halfway done, and that it will really please both Sony and fans of the game franchise through its action and pacing.

The family concept is a favorite for Russel, as he revealed that coupled with other elements, it will really connect with movie-goers.

"We'll have the family dynamic, which we've done in a couple of movies now," he said. "And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That's a really cool idea to me."

Wahlberg also pitched in, saying that even if he hasn't read what Russel wrote, he has been briefed and believes that Uncharted will go a long way in fixing the broken image of game-based movies.

"To me what a lot of those other movies lack is the level of character and heart," he said.

Wahlberg, for those not familiar with his acting career, also appeared in a movie adaptation of Max Payne, which, sadly, wasn't well received due to the bad story and the stiff acting of the America movie star.

Hopefully, with this new project, Wahlberg will have a chance to redeem himself.
