The movie based on the Uncharted video game franchise is still happening and Mark Wahlberg will still play the main role of Nathan Drake, alongside other famous actors like Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci.

The Uncharted movie has been shrouded in a veil of mystery ever since it was first revealed that it existed.

Lately, however, we heard quite a lot of news from scriptwriter David O. Russel, including the fact that reputed actor Mark Wahlberg will be playing Uncharted hero Nathan Drake, and that the story will focus on Drake's extended family, including his father, played by Robert De Niro, or his uncle, played by Joe Pesci.

Those rumors were denied by the producer of the third Uncharted game, Justin Richmond, who revealed that the project is still in early development and that actors weren't cast as of yet.

Now though, Wahlberg counters, and stated in a recent interview that he was, in fact, still scheduled to play Nathan Drake.

”David O. Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct”, Wahlberg said. “It’s myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro”.

This statement may once again annoy fans of the Uncharted series who hoped that the movie would be an accurate portrayal of the video game.

Those familiar with the action adventure series know that Nathan Drake's family has never been detailed, and that his closest thing to a relative is his mentor and partner Victor Sullivan.

Also, fans of actor Nathan Fillion will no doubt start petitions once more, in order to sway the decision and see the leading man from TV series like Firefly or Castle play Nathan Drake on the big screen.

According to Wahlberg, if the writing process goes smoothly, production and shooting can start as early as summer of this year.

What do you think? With such recognizable actors, is the Uncharted movie set to be something worthwhile?
