David O. Russel, the director and script writer for the upcoming Uncharted movie, has once again talked about the project and how he hopes it will really transport the successful video-game franchise onto the big screen.
The Uncharted movie project has been picking up steam in the last few months, with Russel detailing it during special interviews and even going as far as confirming that one of his favorite associates, actor Mark Wahlberg,
will play the lead role of Nathan Drake.
Now, the Hollywood man has talked the project once more and tried to clear things up before fans of the game series criticize his choices and direction.
David O. Russel said that he still hasn't gotten around to finishing the script due to his latest project, The Fighter, earning plenty of awards, but he'll complete it as soon as possible.
"I’m very excited about making [Uncharted] happen. It’s been hard to finish the draft in the middle of awards season, but I’ll take that tradeoff any day, and I think the producers have been very understanding about that and how special this is."
He once again confirmed that his take on the Uncharted franchise would amp up
Drake's family, despite the fact that the main character's relatives aren't even mentioned during the games.
This made plenty of fans angry and they already started proclaiming that Russel is going to massacre the games with his view.
"But I think I could make that into a world that has a family dynamic in it akin to "The Sopranos" or akin to other worlds. See, people will take that, and they will misinterpret it, so I shouldn’t say that. There are all kinds of gamers out there…"
In the end, Russel only wants patience from fans of the series, saying that, "People should just wait to see what we do."
The director revealed during his last few interviews that the Uncharted movie would see Drake and his family, including father and uncle, battle with cold-blooded fortune hunters from all over the world.
Characters from the game will still appear, including Drake's main love interest, Elena Fischer, who might be played, at least according to Russel,
by Scarlett Johansson.
