Uncharted: Golden Abyss For Sony NGP Detailed, Video Included

Sony held a massive media gathering yesterday evening where it showcased some of the major games coming for its Next Generation Portable device, kicking things off with the extremely impressive Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

Sony showcased the Next Generation Portable at the beginning of the year, alongside a few projects that will appear at the launch of the new device.

The event was headlined by the promise that Sony's massively popular Uncharted franchise will see a game made for the NGP.

Now, at its pre-E3 2011 gathering, the Japanese company, alongside the Sony Bend studio, which is handling the development of the Uncharted game for the NGP have showcased more details and gameplay footage of the title, which is now called Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

Sony Bend, which previously worked on the popular Resistance Retribution for the regular PlayStation Portable, has developed a special engine for the NGP, which is capable of rendering not only graphics worthy of the Uncharted franchise, but also implement new control methods.

The studio's John Garvin and Chris Reese confirmed in the video preview you see below, made by the PlayStation Blog, that Uncharted: Golden Abyss will not only make use of the buttons and the twin analog sticks found on the NGP, but also of the touchscreen interface, the touch-sensitive trackpad on the back of the device, or the built-in accelerometer, in order to provide a smooth gameplay experience.

As you can see in the screenshots and the video below, Uncharted: Golden Abyss is looking extremely impressive, even if Sony is currently rumored to have downgraded the hardware of the Next Generation Portable, sacrificing brute power in exchange for a lower manufacturing cost.

At this NGP-themed event, Sony declined to comment on if the new portable console might be called the PlayStation Vita, as was rumored earlier this week, so fans are still going to have to wait until the proper Sony E3 2011 conference on June 6.
