Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception has just received a massive batch of details concerning its multiplayer modes, as well as the announcement that a multiplayer beta stage will be released later this year, so fans can experience all of the new features before the game is released.

Uncharted 3 will be one of the biggest PlayStation 3 exclusives of the year, so its developer, Naughty Dog, wants to make sure that it will please all sorts of gamers.

The studio has now revealed that the game's multiplayer mode is a "complete evolution" over the same one seen in the second title, and will no doubt bring the same classic Uncharted single-player experience to the online world.

The team presented two maps that will appear in the multiplayer mode, Chateau, which is based on the level we already saw in single-player videos up until now, and Airstrip, which sees players duke it out while on a moving plane and then in a hangar that is being destroyed by fighter planes.

Two new competitive modes were also presented, alongside the regular Team Deathmatch mode. These are Three Team Deathmatch, where three teams of two players fight against one another, while Free For All just lets everyone shoot everything in their sights.

Good news for those who want to play with the friends on the same console, as not only is split-screen multiplayer available, but each player can log into their own PlayStation Network accounts, so that they can rack up trophies and experience flawlessly.

What's more, a new Buddy system has been introduced by the studio, with each player getting a Buddy assigned to them, which enables improved teamwork by letting you spawn near your buddy, collect treasures together and more.

Customization will play a key role in Uncharted 3, as players will be able to modify lots of things on their characters, as well as make their own custom emblems with a new, fully-featured editor program. Weapons will also be customizable, not just in a cosmetic sense but also with special mods that upgrade their abilities, including more precise scopes or bigger ammo clips.

Boosters are once again present, but Naughty Dog revealed that while some would be carried over from Uncharted 2, new ones will also be added in the upcoming title.

The studio will also try to prevent one team from dominating the other, as the multiplayer, when it detects a considerable disadvantage between two teams, will enter a special Power Play mode, which evens the odds for the losing side while increasing the rewards for the winning team.

If matches are too close to tell, Overtime will activate, giving each team the opportunity to win the match. If after Overtime things are still at a stalemate, then players will enter Sudden Death, where the last man standing takes the win for his team.

Expect more details about Uncharted 3's multiplayer in the following months, while a special beta stage will be released worldwide on June 28.

PlayStation Plus subscribers and those who buy specially marked copies of Infamous 2 will gain early access into the multiplayer beta.
