The systems have been improved and tweaked since Uncharted 2

Uncharted 3 was released at the beginning of the week and, while it's a stunning game, there have been some aspects that were criticized, including the modified shooting mechanics, which we pointed out in our quick looks at the single-player and cooperative modes of the game as well as in the full review.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception was praised by many since its release on November 1, as people highlighted its polished graphics, the new environments, or the enhanced animations.

Quite a few players, however, complained about the aiming and shooting mechanics, which were a bit more tricky than the systems used by the game's predecessor, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

After lots of people started talking about this aspect, Arne Meyer, the community manager of the game's developer, Naughty Dog, has defended these changes and explained just what modifications were made in the new game.

First up, he and Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond explained that the way the guns fire in Uncharted 3 is drastically different than its predecessor. While the second game allowed for some deviation of the bullet that meant you couldn't always hit your target, the new one allows for 100% control over your hits.

"We wanted to be sure you had a better grasp of whether you were hitting or missing a target. In Uncharted 3 the bullets now fire straight out of the barrel 100% of the time. However, we have recoil -- where the reticle moves/bounces as you fire. Therefore, it is easier to tell if you are missing or hitting a target. Now it is much more obvious when you are hitting or missing based on the reticle itself."

As for aiming itself, the system is identical to the second title, but the sensitivity has been upgraded to give a more precise feel to the actual gunplay.

Lots of other changes have been made, with enemies running faster to their desired cover, so players need to always stay on their toes. What's more, accuracy for certain weapons have been modified, like with the AK which isn't as effective at long range as it was in the second game.

All these changes, Meyer highlights, make Uncharted 3 a more precise experience, although he admits it's going to take players some time to get used to it.
