New changes made to the AI

The PlayStation 3 isn't a very lucky console as it hasn't received quite a lot of blockbuster titles since it was first launched. Although Resistance or Motorstorm did showcase the product's hardware and graphical features, they didn't really convince a lot of people to spend a hefty amount of cash on it. That is, until Uncharted: Drake's Fortune appeared, revealing to players a stunning tropical environment filled with very minute details and gorgeous surroundings.

The game, which followed the adventures of Sir Francis Drake's descendant, Nathan, put the player in some very unique situations, all part of a movie-like story similar to the Indiana Jones series. Now, it seems that Nathan is up for another set of adventures, but this time some much colder ones, as he will go to Tibet in order to find the mythical treasure of Marco Polo.

Although we have posted a few details on the game, it now seems that the game director, Bruce Straley, has decided to share some interesting facts about the AI (Artificial Intelligence) and how it will play a big role in Uncharted 2's new action-stealth gameplay. He goes on to say that Nathan's enemies will have peripheral vision and, if they lose track of him they will begin to “hunt” him down, starting from his last known whereabouts and checking every possible hiding spot. It also seems that the enemies in the game will be able to follow Nathan everywhere he goes, even climbing on buildings or jumping off ledges in order to capture him.

“As a result of expanding our gameplay to account for action-stealth, there are two new behaviors added to enemies, 'investigate' and 'hunt' . With 'investigate' the enemies have peripheral vision just like humans. When Drake enters this peripheral vision the enemies will look over in the direction they think they saw him in and depending on how long he was in this vision cone, they may just look or they may walk over and check out what they think they saw. If they lose eye contact with Drake for a few seconds, one or more enemies will start hunting around the area, starting with his last known location, and then spread their search out if he's not found.”

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves promises a lot of things, emphasizing the fact that it will now use the full power of the PS3, as opposed to the first version, which, although it looked very good, only used 30 percent of the capabilities of Sony's console. Let's hope that the team at Naughty Dog will do a great job with this game and that it will give players a solid treasure hunting experience.
