A win for Sony

The Game Critics Awards have announced that the PlayStation 3 exclusive title Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has been awarded the Best of Show award for the recently finished E3. The game has been judged to be better than Brutal Legend, Mass Effect 2, Modern Warfare 2, and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Uncharted 2 also picked up two other awards, that for Best Console Game and that of Best Action/Adventure Game, meaning that its release might be one of the biggest this year for Sony, a company that sourly needs hit videogames in order to sell more PlayStation 3 consoles. It must be pretty content to have such a well received title as an exclusive.

The surprise of the awards handed out has been Scribblenauts, a game created for the Nintendo DS by 5th Cell and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which picked up the Best Original Game award and the Best Handheld Game trophy. The game is notable for the way it managed to turn words written on the screen on the DS into in-game realities.

Brutal Legend has been the big loser, not managing to pick up any awards even if it was widely nominated. Best PC Game went to Star Wars: The Old Republic, the MMO that is being worked on by BioWare and LucasArts, while Microsoft's newly shown Project Natal has been named Best Hardware.

Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward managed to get the award for Best Action Game, while Mass Effect 2 was named the Best Role Plying Game shown at E3. Disney has provided the Best Racing Game in the form of Split/Second, while Best Sports Game has been named Fight Night Round 4. DJ Hero has received its first award as being the Best Social Game, and Left 4 Dead 2 is named the Best Online Multiplayer.
