The Video Game Awards managed to give off a few awards between playing trailers for pretty much all the major releases coming in 2010 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony exclusively for the PlayStation 3, has been named as Game of the Year, in a move that snubbed pre-show favorites Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward and Activision, and Halo 3: ODST from Bungie and Microsoft.

There are many other awards offered during the ceremony. Hugh Jackman received Best Performance by a Human Male for his role in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, while Megan Fox got the Best Performance by a Human Female award for her appearance in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Flower received the prize for Best Indie Game, while Forza Motorsport 3 got recognition as the Best Driving Game. DJ Hero, despite not selling very well, can show off its award for Best Soundtrack, while Halo 3 took home the prize for Original Score.

God of War 3 was judged to be the most interesting game to arrive in 2010, while Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony was named Best Downloadable Content. Modern Warfare 2 got a sort of consolation title for the multiplayer component and Street Fighter IV was awarded Best Fighting Game. Surprisingly, NHL 10 received the Best Team Sports Game title, while UFC 2009 Undisputed got the same award for individual sports.

New Super Mario Bros. was awarded Best Wii Game, Assassin's Creed 2 was judged to be the Best Action/Adventure title of the year, while Rock Band managed to beat Guitar Hero for Best Music Game. Dragon Age: Origins was named as the Best PC Game and also took home Best RPG.
