Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is already a hit with us here at Softpedia (and you can find out exactly why by taking a peek at the review we have up), but it also has the potential to be one of those games that we come back to again and again. One of the reasons is the multiplayer component, which is especially engaging and offers a variety of modes, and another one might be the release of downloadable content, which Naughty Dog plans to do before the end of the year.

Amy Hennig, who is the creative director at Naughty Dog, has said in an interview with IndustryGamers that, “We're working on that now, and what we're prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year. Without going into specifics, it'll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable.” It's interesting to see the developer actually committing to some content being offered for free and it speaks of the interest that both Sony and Naughty Dog have in keeping players interested and coming back to the video game.

At the moment, Uncharted 2 seems to be performing better than expected in the sales department, with Hennig saying that, even though the retail medium is very tough at the moment, the internal projections of the company are being exceeded and the numbers posted by the first Uncharted are but a distant memory.

With the Christmas shopping season just beginning at the moment, Uncharted 2 could do with another burst of interest in the final two months of the year, so expect one piece of DLC to come in November, probably for a fee, and another one to arrive in December, probably for free, in order to drive up interest among those who have yet to pick up the title.
