Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the third person action adventure title created by Naughty Dog and published by Sony exclusively on the PlayStation 3, seems to be the most awarded videogame of 2009.

At the Game Developers Choice Awards, which took place in San Francisco, the title managed to pick up five of the most important awards, after being nominated seven times. It's a new record for the Game Developers Choice Awards and it comes right after Uncharted 2 also cleaned up at the Interactive Achievement Awards, where it took home ten of the prizes on offer.

At the GDC Awards, Uncharted 2 won Game of the Year, Best Writing, Best Technology, Best Visual Arts and Best Audio, only missing out on Best Game Design, which went to Batman: Arkham Asylum, from Rocksteady, and the one for Innovation, which went to Scribblenauts from 5th Cell.

Scribblenauts also took home the Best Handheld Game award just as a sequel was announced as being in development, while Torchlight, the Diablo-like dungeon runner from Runic Games, was judged to be the Best Debut. Flower from Thatgamecompany was the Best Downloadable Game, while FarmVille was the best New Social/Online Game.

At the same ceremony, John Carmack of id Software received a Lifetime Achievement Award, while Gabe Newell of Valve Software received a Pioneer Award.

Uncharted 2 managed to capture the attention of gamers and critics alike with its mix of exploration and combat, all offered with the use of a very capable graphics engine that managed to depict the smallest elements of a scene in perfect detail. Naughty Dog succeeded in extracting every ounce of power from the PlayStation 3 and also delivered a pretty engaging cooperative multiplayer mode.

The writing on the game, while getting a bit sloppy towards the end, also managed to create some likeable and interesting characters while creating a narrative that was tight and easy to follow.
