An updated flavor of the Sony Xperia M2 smartphone is reportedly heading for the market, in the form of Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The mobile phone appears to have made an official appearance over at the FCC in two different flavors, featuring model numbers Sony PM-0770 and PM-0771.

Moreover, it appears that the smartphone might arrive on shelves with waterproof capabilities, and that it will indeed be called Xperia M2 Aqua, as mentioned in a UAProf spotted on Sony’s website.

The Sony Xperia M2 handset was launched without waterproof capabilities, but it seems that its successor will change that.

Moreover, the phone is expected to arrive on shelves with the usual Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, ANT+, NFC, and GPS capabilities inside, while also featuring 4G LTE connectivity.

Unfortunately, details on the phone’s hardware specifications haven’t been revealed via FCC, but PhoneArena notes that the device should be very similar to the Xperia M2, especially since their sizes are similar as well.

No specific info on when the new mobile phone might become official has been provided as of now, but chances are that Sony won’t let us wait too long before making a formal announcement on the phone, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
