Britney's got talent. It's not a question, not even a rhetorical one, it's a fact. Talent, you see, comes in many shapes and packages. There's the talent to sing, for once, and there's the talent not to sing for a couple of years and still be considered somewhat a star (although there are many who claim that Britster's career has been dead in the water for quite some time). There's the talent to dress like a clown, to show your considerable bottom to the world, to marry a silly would-be rapper who will later on pull your life to pieces for a couple of bucks and so on. And there's the talent to pass on good opportunities, which Britney possesses in large amounts - something she proved right after demonstrating she is among the world's top ten idiots by firing her manager. Not that I was a fan of Larry Rudolph (that's right, the guy who's currently hiding for fear of being served by camp Federline) but at least the idea of actually having a manager is not that bad, is it?
Below you will find a list of three major Britney blunders that have emerged on that front. The first one made me stare at the screen dumbly for 30 seconds before bursting out laughing, and the next ones...well, check them out and you'll see for yourself.
1. Britney turned down "Umbrella". That definitely has to be one of the stupidest moves in her career, that is if you believe Britney would have been capable of pulling of a reasonably decent performance. American music producer Tricky Stewart - who created the track - has admitted that Spears was the one who was given first option. British singer/songwriter Taio Cruz stated the following: "I was working with Tricky in his studio the day he finished Umbrella. As soon as I heard it I said, 'That is a smash, I have to have it,' but he told me it was on hold for Britney". Yes, well, nice try but Britney, my friends, is not that easily impressed. So what if hot singer Rihanna managed to turn the song into a huge hit? All the better for her. And even though the very thought of Britney going "Ella...Ella...Ella" makes me cringe, I still believe it was an incredibly dumb move to say no. But Britney knows best.
2. Britney didn't call Ne-Yo back and two of the songs that had been written for her were bought by Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls. It's the same move, basically, only at a bigger scale. Apparently, as soon as one of Nicole's songs hit the radios and was well-received, Britney's people were back sieging Ne-Yo. Some other tracks have apparently been made available to Britney, but she hasn't expressed any desire to buy them. And of course, under the circumstances, Ne-Yo has his own opinion about what Britney should do to get back to the hearts of her fans. "She gotta remind people why they loved her in the first place. She's got to get people's mind off their personal life and get their mind back on the music". Like that's ever going to happen. But dream on.
3. Britney backed out of recoding a duet with Justin. Produced by Timbaland. Both of them publicly expressed their desire to work with Britney, and Justin allegedly wrote his ex a song especially for her, but no joy again. Britney inexplicably pulled out and there's no more justification for that as there is for her previous two blunders.
And that's the end of it. The real moment when we're going to know for sure if Britney is finished or not will probably be some time next week, when her first new single is said to hit the radios in the States. And with people raving up and down that it's going to be funky and hot, all I can do - again, but at least this time it's deliberate - is hope that it's going to be up to scratch. Otherwise, it will take nothing short of a miracle to pull Brit Brit out of the giant hole she dug for herself.
