The developers are raising money on Kickstarter

Umbra is a new hack 'n' slash RPG built on the CRYENGINE that looks absolutely stunning. It will be released on the PC and Linux platforms if the developers get enough funds on Kickstarter.

There are not too many hack 'n' slash games on the Linux platform and the ones that do exist are nowhere near this kind of quality. The fact that it's built on CRYENGINE ensures some spectacular graphics and the developers promise to deliver a new type of gameplay that should really revamp this genre.

The developers from SolarFall Games have gone to Kickstarter to raise the necessary funds, and they are close to their minimum goal, although they would need some more support from the community.

If the game sounds a little bit like Diablo, it's because it shares some of the same mechanics and design, but that's pretty much it. Unlike Diablo, Umbra is an open world game, there are no classes, the weaponry is procedurally generated, a powerful AI system, a complex story, and more loot that you can ever find.

Umbra should be available in 2016

"An isometric view open-world action-RPG taking place in a corrupted world falling apart. You are a former officer of the army of the Human Republic, forced to flee the death penalty because of the magic powers you have unwillingly developed. Being tracked down by humans and hunted by the monsters of the Wild, you are recruited by a mysterious group of Templars. And thus an epic adventure begins in which you will wander the world to fight inhuman, mutated monsters and discover the terrible secret of the extinguishing mankind," reads the Kickstarter entry.

The gameplay will also have a unique gameplay mechanic called Apocalyptic Form. The player will be able to transform into another highly customized character that will have special powers, and that will be uniquely tailored for each player.

Umbra still has 17 days in its Kickstarter campaign, so better make sure that you check their project and back them up. You won't find anything like this on Linux or any other platform for that matter.
