Actress goes for bold look, sparks plastic surgery talk

Uma Thurman is the Renee Zellweger of the week: the actress stepped out on the red carpet for the premiere of the NBC miniseries “The Slap” the other night, rocking very different styling than she normally favors for such events, sparking mad speculation on the kind of work she may have had done.

It’s true, this time, Uma went for a very bold, minimalistic look, with very little eye makeup and a striking lip, but buzz online claims this must have been a clever ruse to distract attention from her drastically different face.

Surgery, Botox and fillers, and endless speculation

You will find photos of Uma at this event in the gallery below, together with a comparison shot. The “before” shot was taken just a few weeks ago, but the difference between the two amounts to more than just heavier eye makeup and bangs.

According to Mark Norfolk from the Transform Cosmetic Surgery, who did not treat or even make Uma’s acquaintance, she probably had lower blepharoplasty / eye bag removal, some chemical peels and probably fillers to the cheeks and under the nose, the Daily Mail informs.

The fact that her forehead appears frozen and her entire face is shiny and rigid could be down to recent Botox injections, the same expert believes.

Alison Telfer of the Glasshouse Clinic explains Uma’s changed appearance by the injection of fillers around the jawline and in the area under the eyes.

And it’s not just these 2 people that are convinced that Uma had something done to her face other than have a different makeup: various other celebrity publications are claiming the same, while Twitter is riddled with commentary from fans who are pretty much saying she shouldn’t have “ruined” her looks and expect the world not to notice.

Female stars and plastic surgery talk

By now, almost all celebrities in showbiz, whether male or female, have had some kind of work done to improve their appearance and make them perfect for HD cameras, which have been described as the bane of all aging stars.

Whether they’re getting laser treatments or chemical peels, fillers or Botox, or actual, invasive procedures through plastic surgery, they’re all doing it because pressure to look good is bigger than never. In this day and age, not having the right image is the kind of thing that can break a career.

However, not all stars are under the same level of scrutiny: things have gotten really bad for female stars over 40. If they’re too fit and look too good and are proud enough to show off the results of their hard work, they’re told to “cover up” and act their age.

If, oppositely, they try to keep up with the young’uns at least in appearance and they get more or less subtle work, they’re accused of being desperate and thirsty for attention, and not knowing how to age gracefully.

The problem is that, even if they wanted to do that, they wouldn’t be allowed to. That is to say, they would be allowed to, but they wouldn’t do it in the spotlight and they would definitely have no career anymore. It’s not like Hollywood is flooded with great parts for women past a certain age, unless, of course, those women are named Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep.
