After a close collaboration on making hardware-enabled anti-virus applications, Intel and McAfee again join hands to develop solutions that will make sure that Ultrabooks will benefit from an enhanced anti-theft protection.

The new devices, which will be soon released by Intel, will be a combination between a tablet and a laptop, and because the competition is intense in that market segment, McAfee will help add a few extra features unavailable in other products.

Things like device lock, data wipe and location tracking will be present on the new “toys,” the increased need for mobility making these solutions a necessity on all future devices.

As Steve Petracca, senior vice president of Consumer Marketing at McAfee revealed, “McAfee has a strong legacy of delivering security solutions to consumers through our partner channel as well as an established partner eco-system.”

“By making easy-to-use anti-theft software for Ultrabook systems available, our partners are able to leverage proven security deployment models to protect consumers. This also allows our partners to differentiate themselves from a crowded field of competitors,” he stated.

Retailers and telecommunications providers will have the opportunity to offer the new anti-theft facilities to their customers starting with 2012 when hopefully everything will be ready. Intel also created a fund that will provide the necessary capital for making continuous improvements to this line of devices.

The general manager of PC Client Services Division at Intel, George Thangadurai, added “Despite the fact that laptops and personal data are stolen each and every day around the world, people's computers often hold some of the most private and valuable information including bank statements, tax returns, pictures, and videos.”

“To address the pervasive nature of such threats, Intel and McAfee are collaborating to deliver scalable and innovative anti-theft solutions starting with Ultrabook systems that will help to provide more peace of mind to people,” he said in the official press release.
