Market Analysis Firm, ABI Research has posted a new research note concerning the ultra-portable PC market in 2013.

According to them 12% of notebook shipments in 2013 were Ultrabooks, a percent that can be converted into 22.5 million units, from the total of 182.7 million notebooks shipped worldwide.

More than that, while most PC sub-segments don’t show much increase, Ultrabooks flourished posting a 100% growth rate year over year.

In 2013, the average selling price for an Ultrabook ranged between $940 / €688 and $1,540 / 1,127 but most models were priced above $1,200 / €878.

The research highlights the MacBook Air as notable model, but the majority of ultra-portables are actually Windows 8-based machines. The free Windows 8.1 update is believed to have wooed customers back to the Ultrabook family.

Last but not least, ABI mentions it expects to see LTE models become a standard in the market, a feature that will appeal to eternal travelers and those living in remote areas.
