Some of them are questionable, but others are really cool

Ultra Street Fighter IV is getting some crazy-looking swag soon, in the form of a bunch of animal costumes for all of its characters.

If you've ever found yourself wondering why nobody plays Bloody Roar or Paws of Fury anymore, you're in luck, as the character costume packs will enable you to play as Honda dressed up as a Turtle or as Rufus the Walrus.

The all-new Utra Street Fighter IV Wild Costumes packs, which should have been dubbed Ultimate Furry Edition, introduce a bunch of bestial costumes for the many fighters in the roster, and some of them even look pretty clever and actually nice. There are also some that look pretty terrible, so the choice is yours.

The release seems to be catering to die-hard fans of the fighting game genre, for which the fighting game genre is mostly made out of Street Fighter and not much else. In any case, Capcom has had success with things like these in the past, even though they lack substance, so there will likely be a lot of adopters of the furry-inspired costumes.

It seems that otakus have a lot to look forward to in fighting games, since Tekken 7 got a brand new blonde-haired cat lady character, in the form of Lucky Chloe. The reveal polarized the community, so director Katsushiro Harada mentioned that the character would only be coming to Asia and Europe, and the team would design a burly military dude for North America.

Recent developments

Capcom has just released a free update for Ultra Street Fighter IV, adding a bunch of interesting features to the game, such as trials and the online Omega mode.

The Omega mode is by far the most exciting addition, enabling gamers to play the game with several changes made to every character, including new specials and adjustments on their normal attacks, in order to make them more fun.

Although titled Omega mode, it's not actually a separate game mode, but rather special editions of existing characters.

The mode is addressed to those who want to have fun and try something else, but without affecting the perfectly honed balance of competitive matches.

The update also introduced a number of specific trials for fighters to pull off in training mode, and modified the ones impacted by the balance changes made.

Ultra Street Fighter IV is currently available in select arcades, on Windows PC and on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 home consoles.
