Major carrier AT&T has just announced it will be the first to offer the new Sonim XP5 ultra rugged smartphone. The device hasn't been officially unveiled by Sonim, so there aren't many details on its specs available for the moment.

However, we do know that the smartphone will come with AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk service and will provide access to vertical enterprise worker safety and productivity applications.

Why is it ultra-rugged, though? Well, according to AT&T, Sonim XP5 is waterproof in up to 6.5 feet of water for 30 minutes, offering Military Standard 810G protection. Also, the smartphone has been especially designed to withstand harsh conditions.

Furthermore, the carrier also confirmed that the smartphone is equipped with a powerful 3180mAh battery that's designed to last. Customers may also want to know that the battery is backed by a limited 1-year manufacturer's warranty.

AT&T also insists on the fact that Sonim XP5 features a powerful front-facing speaker with 104dB output, which allows the smartphone to deliver increased volume in loud environments.

A sturdy phone for active people

Sonim XP5 seems to be the ideal device for businesses like construction, manufacturing, transportation, and hospitality, which can use it to stay connected in tough environments.

Since we have already mentioned what the XP5 can do, let's see what it can't do. For example, the smartphone will definitely not operate under water and should be dried as quickly as possible when wet.

Moreover, to ensure that the phone is waterproof, users should make sure the charger/data port, audio jack and card slot covers are properly seated, with no foreign objects obstructing the seals.

Even though AT&T has already confirmed that Sonim XP5 will soon be available for purchase through its official retail channels, the carrier did not announce the phone's price tag and exact release date.

However, it stated that it will announce pricing and availability at a later date, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
