GammaTech has come up with quite a few interesting ultra-rugged portable computing systems over the past couple of years, and now, the company's back with yet another interesting product of this type, the Durabook S15C, that combines an impressive level of ruggedness and durability with a generous display and some other cool extra features as well.

The system is housed within a magnesium alloy case that is 20 times stronger than ABS plastic and incorporates a flexible HDD cable design that absorbs shock from drops, as well as anti-shock mounting technology around the LCD that helps protect the display from accidental damage.

Additional protection features include a spill-resistant design that protects the keyboard, touchpad, and switches from spills seeping into sensitive interior parts, optical-disk-tray lock, as well as double protection smart battery circuitry that prevents damage caused by current or voltage surges and overheating.

At the core of the 15.6-inch we can find either an Intel i7 or an Intel i5 processor and the Intel HM55 chipset, as well as two dual- channel DDR III SODIMM slots that provide up to 8GB of memory.

The system also comes equipped with an Intel integrated graphics controller, Intel compliant high-definition stereo audio, and a built-in microphone, plus plenty of connectivity options, including here three USB ports, a serial port, integrated 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, and an Intel Mini-Express wireless LAN network connection.

“Just because an individual works away from an office and uses their notebook computer in a harsh environment is no reason for he or she not to enjoy the benefits of a notebook computer with a brilliant screen and powerful graphics,” stated Jen Chen, GammaTech President.

“Our new rugged S15C has a very generous 15.6” display with high-definition resolution and its many other terrific features make the S15C the perfect choice for such users,” Mr. Chen added.

Unfortunately, the company's not provided any details regarding the possible pricing for the S15C ultra-rugged notebook, informing us just that it's available as we speak via the company's usual channels as we speak.
