Plextor, the renowned optical device manufacturer, has launched the new ultra-portable PX-608U DVD /-R RW CD-R/RW multi-drive. Dimensions of 5.43" X 6.38" X 0.87" and a total weight of less than a pound make the PX-608U the smallest CD/DVD drive from Plextor. These outstanding dimensions recommend it to professionals on the go. The drive supports 5X DVD-RAM functionality for removable data storage applications and it features a unique drag-and-drop files option, making burning software redundant. In this respect, the device formats blank discs upon insertion and it assigns a drive letter. The new device is capable of 8X DVD /- R on single-layer media, 4X DVD /- R on double or dual-layer media and 5X DVD-RAM. The device also features an onboard Hi-Speed USB interface that allows for quick PC connection. Plextor claims that the device is able to burn a standard DVD R disc in just 6 minutes, an outstanding time for portable devices like PX-608U. The drive comes equipped with 2 MB of buffer memory and is Buffer Underrun Proof Technology compliant. Plextor informs that this device will be available starting September 25 and the company's website presents a $199.0 retail price tag.
