Coolers come in many shapes and sizes, and the one that Scythe has just launched, or one of them, is a very small piece of work.
Called Kodati, the cooler is made for HTPCs (home-theater personal computers) and other small computers based on Intel or AMD CPUs/APUs.
Specifically, the new cooler is compatible with AMD AM3(+), and FM2(+) chips, as well as Intel LGA115x and LGA775 processors.
You'd think that a low-profile cooler like this would not have room for heatpipes or any division between the base plate and C-type heatsink. Many coolers are made of a single heatsink+fan after all, with direct connection between the former and the chip top.
Kodati, though, has a pair of 6 mm nickel-plated copper heatpipes taking heat away from the base (made of the same materials) to the aluminum fin-stack.
The cooler is 34 mm tall / 1.33 inches and uses an 800-3,300 RPM fan (between 6 and 24.8 CFM of air at 8.2 to 32.5 dBA noise).
All in all, the Scythe Kodati CPU cooler measures 82.5 x 95 x 34 mm / 3.24 x 3.74 x 1.33 inches and weighs 180 grams / 0.39 pounds. Sales will start in June for an as yet unknown price.
