After introducing a couple of new dome-type network surveillance cameras a few days ago, Axis Communications has decided to add some more products to their lineup and introduced a couple of new, outdoor-ready, vandal-resistant fixed dome cameras.

A part of the company's AXIS M31 Series of products, the new cameras offer certain features that make them particularly suited for outdoor use, given the fact that they'll work quite well in temperatures from 122°F down to -4°F.

Moreover, the surveillance cameras also sport a vandal-resistant casing, featuring a weather shield for protection from environmentally-adverse factors, such as sunlight, rain and snow, that can potentially damage any device after long exposures.

The company's offering the new cameras in a version not featuring the weather shield, which grants them enhanced tilt capabilities, but makes them less prone to damage, thus making them a better solution for indoors applications.

Axis Communications' new line of cameras includes, for the time being, two different models, namely the AXIS M3114-VE and the AXIS M3113-VE, that, while sharing multiple design-related features, are fairly different in terms of imaging capabilities.

So, the AXIS M3114-VE is a camera that's capable of delivering video resolutions of up to 720p, compliant with SMPTE standards, while the second camera, the AXIS M3113-VE, offers SVGA 800 x 600 pixels resolution.

Another interesting detail worth pointing out here is that the AXIS M31 network cameras are powered using Power over Ethernet, which means that only one standard network cable is needed for carrying power and video.

“These new vandal-resistant and outdoor-ready additions to the M31 Series are ideal for business owners and managers who want to protect their buildings and add intelligence to their surveillance systems in a cost-effective way,” commented Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications Inc., in relation to the company's newly-launched products.

According to the manufacturer, the AXIS M31-VE Series will become available in Q2 2011, the suggested retail prices being set at $499 for the AXIS M3113-VE and $599 for the AXIS M3114-VE.
