Ultimate Spider-Man Unlockables and Glitches (DS)

- Some tricks for the Spider-Man fanatics

By: Alexandru Stanescu, Editor, Gaming Reviews (Consoles)

Ultimate Spider-Man is a video game based on the comic book of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley. The game was released for all last-generation video game consoles, including PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, DS, GBA and PC as well as a Mobile Phone game. Treyarch, who made the console games based on the Spider-Man movies, developed the console game, while Vicarious Visions developed the DS and GBA versions and Beenox Entertainment ported the PC version from consoles. Stylistically, it differs from its predecessor, Spider-Man 2, in that it employs what has been dubbed Comic Inking Animation technology, a form of cell shading intended to make the game appear as if it were a living
comic-book.

Original promotions claimed that the game would be canonical to the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, but recent events in the comics (particularly Silver Sable not recognizing Spider-Man outside of costume, despite learning in the game of his secret identity) call this into question. However, the majority of the game takes place three months after the supposed death of Eddie Brock Jr./ Venom. No official statement has been made as of yet and until Venom resurfaces in the comic, it is likely to be left up to interpretation.

The game starts with a recap of what happened in the Venom storyline and Peter Parker's first fight with Venom before he disappeared, which had Peter and Venom fight from the high school football field on a rainy night and then the battle spans over to the middle of a street where Venom is believed to be shot down and killed by the police in Peter's point of view.
