Seagate, SCUDE and GammaTech (formerly known as Twinhead) are forming a partnership to create and implement hardware-based security solutions in order to prevent unauthorized access to data on stolen or lost laptops. Each of these companies comes with its own security technology, as SECUDE has the FinallySecure authentication technology, Seagate created DriveTrust featuring hardware-based disk encryption and GammaTech's line of notebooks Durabook will implement
them.

Dr. Heiner Kromer, CEO of SECUDE International AG, was cited by Earthtimes.org saying: "SECUDE's FinallySecure(TM) provides total Data-at-Rest security with Seagate's Momentus® 5400 FDE.2 hard drive. The 2.5-inch notebook drive is the industry's first system to feature hardware-based full disk encryption, access control, and password management -- all without compromising performance." This combined solution is only the first step in the line of laptops planned.

Seagate DriveTrust technology is a security platform built directly into the hard-drive and it is much stronger than the typical BIOS, operating system or ATA-based solutions in use today. DriveTrust combines strong and fully automated hardware-based security with a software layer that makes it easy for companies to deploy and operate their own organization wide encryption keys, multi-user authentication and other capabilities that help lock digital information. The SECUDE company established itself as a leader in key and access management, authentication and encryption technology, having created over the years software products like Single-SignOn, Key&Token Management, and several encryption technologies.

DURABOOK laptops from GammaTech, the newly formed U.S. sales and marketing division of Twinhead Corporation, feature spill-resistant keyboards, patented optical disk tray locks, anti-shock screens and protected hard-drives. Having a case made from a magnesium alloy 20 times stronger than the typical plastic laptop case, Durabook laptops are much stronger and resilient and rapidly fill the market for ultra-durable notebooks that can withstand the knocks, shocks, drops and spills of real life.
