Publisher THQ is announcing it is developing a game called UFC 2009 Undisputed, another wrestling title to add to its already existing line-up. It will be based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship wrestling system, which mixes different martial arts techniques and styles. It is in early development for the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and for mobile gaming devices.

The developers say that the fighting game would feature more than 80 fighters from the UFC line-up, covering the five different weight classes available. There will also be an option that lets the player design his own fighter to use in the ring.

It will also feature the famed Octagon arena, complete with the most popular two commentators, most of the announcers, the main referees and trainers. The Octagon girls that are featured in television shows and live events of UFC will also make an appearance.

The game engine used will be severely modified because the fighting style used in the UFC is a blend of very different styles of martial arts, with elements of Muay Thai, kick boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu mixed with standard wrestling moves. The main game mode will allow the player to take one fighter that's ranked low and fight his way to the UFC Hall of Fame, while dealing with most of the issues real fighters do in their careers, like injuries and negative publicity.

UFC 2009 Undisputed is to be expanded through downloadable content at any point where the real UFC championships feature new fighters and new venues. Because of the modular nature of the game, players will not have to wait for a new title to come out to get new content and THQ promises that updates will be provided on a regular basis.

Bob Aniello, who is vice president of worldwide marketing at THQ, declared that "As the leading fighting videogame publisher(s), we feel the rising popularity of the UFC brand and its incredible mixed martial arts experience make UFC 2009 Undisputed the perfect addition to our expanding portfolio. UFC 2009 Undisputed is certain to be the most realistic fighting game to date, including advanced collision detection and AI systems that incorporate individual fighter styles".
