On Monday, Martin Albisetti and Felipe Lerena re-launched the Ubuntustats.com - a place to reflect the enormous activity Ubuntu has on all fronts. "We parse every data source we think is interesting to show you how much the community is working and display it in an easy-to-read format." - says the Ubuntu Live Stats team.

At the beginning of this week, the Ubuntu team introduced the Ubuntu Classroom - a place for all Ubuntu users to learn how to "give back to the community." In other words, it
will allow you, the Ubuntu users, to share your experience with new users and people who want to learn more about this wonderful project. Ubuntu Classroom is here to show the millions of Ubuntu users how they can personally make this operating system better. How can you help? Read here for more information.

On Tuesday, the Ubuntu technical board announced the following decisions regarding the upcoming Ubuntu release, 8.04 LTS (codename Hardy Heron):

■ Automatic indexing in tracker will be disabled for Ubuntu 8.04. While we value the functionality provided by tracker and intend to continue to support its rapid development by including it by default in Ubuntu, the side effects of automatic indexing have a significant impact on users regardless of whether they make use of tracker's search features. Instead, users who want this functionality can turn on indexing by changing their preference settings.
■ The officially released architectures for Ubuntu 8.04 will be i386 and amd64. The SPARC port will continue to be provided with build infrastructure, and Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, 7.04 and 7.10 will continue to enable SPARC deployments well into the future, but there will not be an official Ubuntu 8.04 release for SPARC.

And talking about the Hardy Heron, watch out our website on Thursday night or Friday morning for the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Beta release!

In other news, the music department at Sheffield University wants to try out Ubuntu Studio and they are in the process of installing it, as dual boot, on all their computers.
