Here we are, in the final Ubuntu 7.10 development week, as the
release candidate version was made available on Thursday night and we will wait for the final release this Thursday, on October 18. Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu and Gobuntu were also updated, and this release candidate is available as a live desktop CD, server CD and alternate text-mode installation CD.
Ubuntu 7.10 supports, for the first time, install-time encryption and here at Softpedia we have created a
tutorial (with screenshots) to guide you through the installation steps, in order to obtain an encrypted Ubuntu system.
This week you've learned how to
convert your favorite movies, in order to watch them on your PSP, with the help of
Avidemux 2.4 Preview 2.
If you are anxious to get your hands on some nice
Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon CDs as soon as it will be released, then you should pre-order them right now from
Ubuntu's ShipIt service,
FREE of charge.
After the release of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon on 18th October,
Dell will pre-load it on their selected desktops and notebooks. Even Michael Dell is expected to personally use it.
Let's
move on to the updates and fixes for 6.06 LTS, 6.10, 7.04 Ubuntu releases.
Some common security updates, for all of the previously mentioned Ubuntu versions, are:
