On Tuesday, Parallels and Canonical join forces and they will release pre-built Ubuntu virtual machines, that will allow system administrators to deploy a specialized Ubuntu system in approximately one minute. For detailed information about this collaboration, take a look here.

On Wednesday, at CES 2008, an amazing piece of technology was presented: a driverless automobile, running Ubuntu, called Carnegie Mellon! McCabe Software, Inc., through the McCabe University Program, provided the team from Carnegie Mellon with its software quality management suite, McCabe IQ. Tartan Racing - Carnegie Mellon's team - won the 2007 DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Urban Challenge, a competitive rally for autonomous cars. If using Ubuntu 6.06 was a success, maybe this year the team will use Ubuntu 8.04 - which will be released in April - another LTS edition of Ubuntu. Who knows, maybe they'll win the DARPA Urban Challenge again.

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (codename Hardy Heron) Alpha 3 was released as expected on Thursday. It comes with GNOME 2.21.4, Firefox 3 Beta 2, PolicyKit and PulseAudio. For download links, take a look at the end of the article.

As you probably already know, KDE 4 was released on Friday and the Kubuntu team prepared extremely
fast an installable Live CD of Gutsy Gibbon, with the latest and stable version of KDE 4. So, go ahead and download it right now from Softpedia and see for yourself what new stuff it brings.
